Face Matching Explanation

Last material changes: March 2026

Face Matching uses AI to analyze the facial features of a face appearing in a photo, and then match other photos depicting that same face. To perform this analysis, Face Matching may briefly process scans of the person’s face geometry. The technology vendor that offers the tool will retain such info only for as long as it takes to match other photos depicting the same face. Face Matching will permanently delete this info as soon as this process is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding CCS' Face Matching Tool

Q. Can Photographers sort their photos without using the Face Matching Tool?

A. Yes. Photographers have several options when it comes to deciding how to sort and organize their photos by End User. Photographers are free to sort their photos using any method, and they can choose to do so with or without tools offered by CCS. For example, Photographers can manually sort their photos by End User, or they can choose to use software programs (other than the Face Matching Tool) that are offered by CCS. Photographers elect to use the Face Matching Tool at their sole discretion.

Q. Does CCS sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from the face scan data created by the Face Matching Tool?

A. No. CCS has a strict policy prohibiting the sale or renting of personal information, including face scan data.

Q. How long is End User face scan data retained when a Photographer uses the Face Matching Tool?

A. Any facial comparison information runs on the third-party technology vendor’s host server, at which time the Face Matching Tool may briefly collect scans of an End User’s face geometry (“biometric data”). The technology vendor that offers the Face Matching Tool retains biometric data only for as long as it takes to identify other photos depicting a specific End User. The Face Matching Tool will permanently delete the biometric data as soon as this process is complete.

The facial geometry data is generated “on the fly” in server memory. After the analysis is complete, the generated facial geometry data is dropped from memory. The facial geometry data is never physically stored in a database; only the original End User photo images are stored. Therefore, neither Photographers nor CCS can access or copy the facial geometry data created by the Face Matching Tool. Accordingly, End User “face scan” data is not “stored” by the Photographer, the technology vendor, or CCS for any period of time.

Q. How is End User “face scan” data created when a Photographer uses the Face Matching Tool?

A. The Face Matching Tool works by measuring the geometric distances between certain facial landmarks on an End User’s face, as it appears in a photo uploaded by the Photographer. The Tool then analyzes other photos within a specified collection to determine whether any other images depict a face of that same End User.

Q. What is the Face Matching Tool?

A. The Face Matching Tool is used by Photographers to sort and organize their photos by End User in a quick and efficient manner. The Face Matching Tool uses AI to analyze the facial features of a person appearing in a photo, and then identify other photos depicting that same person. To perform this analysis, the Face Matching Tool may briefly collect scans of the person’s face geometry (“biometric data”).
